The president of the Council of Ministers, Aníbal Torres, arrived two hours late at the dialogue table established with the communities located in the surroundings of the Las Bambas mining project, in Apurimac. The meeting was scheduled for 11:00 am in the town of Pumamarca and, after his participation, the prime minister quickly left the place, which caused the community members to protest.
Before leaving the place, the head of the ministerial cabinet assured that the Government will order the lifting of the state of emergency in the districts of Challhuahuacho and Coyllurqui, if the communities abandon the forceful measures and social peace is reestablished.
“In relation to the state of emergency, I tell you the following: since both parties are here acting in good faith, honestly, the state of emergency is lifted simultaneously with the lifting of the attitudes of force and reestablishing social peace.”, said Torres Vásquez moments before leaving the place.
“That is done quickly by the State. There is no difficulty, no obstacle. The state of emergency is lifted beginning to negotiate peacefully”, he added.
Prior to the arrival of the Prime Minister, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Carlos Palacios, was approached by some angry residents of Pumamarca who let him know their annoyance at the delay during the installation of the dialogue table. A few minutes later, Aníbal Torres appeared at the scene.
This incident was captured by a video broadcast by Canal N, however, after hearing the inconvenience, Minister Carlos Palacios only managed to smile and go to greet others present.
