A fire of great magnitude, accompanied by a dense column of black smoke, was controlled this afternoon at the facilities of the Ñico López refinery in the municipality of Regla, in Havana.
“Controlled fire”, wrote in his account Facebook journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso, minutes after announcing that a press team from Canal Caribe was traveling to the scene.
For the moment, the Cuban authorities have not reported the causes and extent of the incident, which affects one of the only three refineries in the country and it is unknown if the fire has caused human damage.
Cuba is currently in a serious energy crisis since the oil blockade imposed by the US has been added to the endogenous structural problems, which has prevented the entry of imported crude oil into the country since January.
Under construction.
