Salomón indicated that, despite the request made 5 years ago, the State did not comply. Given this, temporary bridges have had to be implemented to enter the most important airport in Peru.

“With the 2019 Pan American Games we were in talks with the MTC so that the Santa Rosa Avenue bridge could be built once and for all. It is the State that has finally not complied with building the bridges and accesses as it should, and today we have these temporary and accessory measures to facilitate walkability to the new terminal,” he said in RPP.

The start of operations of the new terminal was postponed to January 29, 2025, while the works on the Santa Rosa bridge will only be completed in 2027.

Discrepancies with Migrations

Salomón pointed out that, since 2018, various meetings have been held with the National Superintendence of Migration to coordinate the details of the spaces in the new terminal. In that sense, he assured that the government institution accepted the proposal, despite the fact that in 2022 they showed their disagreement.

“The relationship with Migrations regarding the areas they will receive began on November 27, 2018. We have had a series of meetings in which it was explained what they were going to receive and they were sent a technical sheet with the details of the areas and was accepted. Only in November 2022 did they express that they did not agree,” he said.

The LAP manager reported that Migrations assured that at the end of November they would have the equipment ready.

“The intention is that, at the beginning of operations, both Peruvians with electronic passports and foreigners with electronic passports can use the automatic doors to speed up the processes,” he said.

Works at 95%

Salomón stressed that the works on the new terminal have exceeded 95% construction. In that sense, he explained that passenger simulation tests are currently being carried out in order to guarantee the integrity of the systems. In addition, he pointed out that in the coming days the tests of the new control tower will begin.

According to its version, the new airport is expected to generate 121 thousand direct and indirect jobs during 2025, which will mean a contribution to the GDP of around US$ 1.5 billion.

He concluded that there is no bonus or prize for finishing the new terminal in January or December: “In the concession contract there is no bonus or prize for putting the infrastructure into operation in December or January. Our obligation is to fulfill the concession contract.”
