LAP rejects that connection fees influence airlines' decisions to cancel routes

Lima Airport Partners (LAP), operator of the Jorge Chávez International Airport (AIJC), issued a statement to respond to the airlines’ announcement to cancel routes due to the application of the connection fee (Unified Airport Transfer Rate – TUUA). Thus, the concessionaire maintained the following:

1. From LAP we warn with concern the dissemination of public announcements by airlines that seek to misinform and generate confusion around the application of the Unified Airport Use Fee (TUUA) for transfers. This rate, legally recognized by the Peruvian State and supervised by the regulator (Ositran), does not constitute an additional charge, but rather the execution of a contractual mechanism in force since 2013, in strict compliance with Addendum 6 of the concession contract.

2. Regarding what was recently announced by LATAM, which abandons its route to Havana, it should be noted that airlines have the flexibility to define and modify their itineraries, according to the profitability of their own commercial strategies and the load factor of each destination. These decisions respond to internal management factors and the dynamics of the international air market, which is constantly evolving. For this reason, LAP rejects that the cost of TUUA directly affects the business decisions of airlines.

3. The New Jorge Chávez International Airport represents one of the most important private investments in the country, financed entirely by private capital. LAP carries out its work in strict compliance with the concession contract with the Peruvian State. This infrastructure will remain at the service of the country even after the concession ends, as a tangible legacy for air transport, connectivity and Peruvian tourism in the coming years.

4. In this context, LAP reiterates the importance of legal security as a fundamental pillar for attracting investments and long-term stability. In a changing political environment, guaranteeing compliance with concession contracts and current regulatory standards is essential for the confidence of foreign companies that bet on the country.

“LAP reaffirms its commitment to connectivity, competitiveness and sustainable growth in Peru, always acting with transparency, responsibility and respect for the legal framework that supports investment and public-private cooperation,” they concluded.
