Landslides in Ipatinga leave at least six dead

The Minas Gerais Fire Department reported, this Sunday (12), that at least six people died in Ipatinga (MG) victims of landslides that occurred after the rains last morning.Landslides in Ipatinga leave at least six dead

Among the victims, three bodies were identified, one of a boy, aged 8, another of an elderly woman, aged 70, and another of a 30-year-old man. Firefighters reported that three people were missing.

The city council announced a public calamity decree after intense rains that caused a volume of 80 millimeters of rain, recorded in less than an hour. The intensity of the storm is among the causes, according to the municipal administration, for landslides and flooding. Civil defense teams work to locate possible buried victims.

Mayor Gustavo Nunes stated, in an interview with local vehicles, that the city is experiencing a war scenario. The governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema, in a post on X, announced that he will go to the city this Monday (13) and asked residents to look for safe places.
