MÉRIDA, Mexico – A man in his 60s died this week in Guanabacoa, Havana, victim of a landslide.
“The facade of the house located at Cadena #61 between División and Versalles collapsed. There was an injured person who was treated quickly, but unfortunately he died. We offer our condolences to family and friends,” confirmed the Municipal Administration Council of Guanabacoa on Facebook.
The man was identified on social media as Miguelito, “a beloved neighbor.”
User Yudaimi Morales complained about the construction state of that house in Cadenas that could “kill more people.”
“We are all speechless, we are all very upset by this horrible event yesterday here in Guanabacoa, on Cadenas Street. This collapse killed a person, a beloved neighbor. If they don’t fix the Cadenas house, it will kill many more people,” the woman lamented.
“Please look at this, the government of Guanabacoa, before more disasters happen, RIP to Miguelito, who is only 60 years old, and this happened due to negligence without words, until when. This reached my front door,” denounced the neighbor, who shared images of how the debris reached the front door of her house.
Landslides in Havana
Last week it became known that the area of the Higher Institute of Design (ISDi) in Havana that had been shored up and closed since mid-2022 collapsed.
The authorities of the educational institution disseminated the information through WhatsApp channels for students and teachers.
At the end of June, a landslide in El Cerro left One fatality and two injured after a wall collapsed and fell on the roof of a house.
The tragic event that caused the death of a person occurred specifically on Calzada del Cerro between Carvajal and Patria.
