Land freight carriers announced the suspension of the stoppage measure that they had scheduled for this Wednesday, July 27, since they opened the roads that were closed in the east of the province of Chiriquí.
“In the evening hours, when they confirmed to us that the Tolé area had been reopened, it was decided to dismiss the forceful measure that we were going to have, since the essence of this was to support our fellow Chiricans who have their loads here in Zona Free,” said Humberto Harris, a spokesman for the carriers.
He stated that in Colón there are dozens of loaded trucks that have been in the province for more than 20 days, which has affected the economy of these carriers.
“We have reports of companies in the Free Zone that were already about to change the situation of the merchandise from land to sea, imagine the cost that this entails,” added Harris.
In the same way, he mentioned that they will be vigilant of what happens in the avenues.
It should be noted that the Pan-American highway had been closed in different parts of the country for more than two weeks, mainly due to protests, whose objective was to address the price of fuel, the basic food basket and medicines.
