The Olmos Irrigation project made it possible to boost 65% of agricultural exports from Lambayeque in 2022, reported the general manager of Pro Olmos, José Lecaros de Marzi.
The dispatches in the region had blueberries as their main protagonist, whose harvest showed a growing production.
Of the total blueberries shipped by the region, 99.74% (66’224,439 kg) were produced in Tierras Nuevas of Olmos Irrigation.
In the case of fresh grapes, the contribution was 44.58%, while in Hass avocado production it was 80%.
Lecaros de Marzi specified that the main destinations for products shipped from Lambayeque are Europe and North America.
During the same 2022, Olmos contributed 80% (87.8 million kilos) to the production of Hass avocado.
Other foods that the region exports are frozen asparagus, coffee, mangoes, strawberries, and vegetables, among others.
MAIN DESTINATIONS
Lecaros de Marzi recalled that Lambayeque is still the second largest producer of blueberries in the country, after La Libertad. Meanwhile, in grape and avocado production it ranks third after Ica with Piura and La Libertad with Lima, respectively.
The destination markets were various countries in Europe and North America.
For its part, the Department of Information and Electronic Business of PromPerú reported that in 2022 Lambayeque’s exports reached US$ 978.4 million, an amount that means a growth of 8.3% compared to 2021.
The same source explained that exports of blueberries, grapes and avocado are the most significant, but added that Lambayeque also increased its levels of shipments of frozen asparagus, coffee, vegetables, mangoes, strawberries, common beans, canned mangoes, rice, among others.
