Within the framework of the various debates about the options to be undertaken after the triumph of the Approval or Rejection, Chile Vamos has aroused mistrust about the real will of the coalition to reform the current Constitution in the event that the Magna Carta is not approved. This, in the middle of the reduction of quorum by 4/7 that was approved unanimously in the Senate Constitution commission.
Among these is Senator Ricardo Lagos Weber (PPD), who during last Wednesday questioned that the right has remained only in “words”, emphasizing that it suffers from a “credibility problem”.
In a conversation with Radio ADN, Weber suggested an agreement similar to the one signed on November 15, 2019, which opened the way to the entry plebiscite so that citizens could estimate whether or not they wanted a new Constitution.
“If that could be compromised in some way. First, let each one say what they want to do; we have a proposal, I don’t know what others I approve of have proposals to make changes, and I want to see the same from the right. And then We see if there is room for a political understanding on this matter, a great political understanding, on November 15 was a political understanding,” he said.
“I want to go there, to be clear about what we are going to do as of September 5, I want to do it from the Approval; I feel comfortable, calmer, I think more progress is being made for Chile, because from there we agree about what should be improved and incorporated into the text that the Constituent Assembly proposed to us,” he added.
Along the same lines, he underlined that “the right wing is right on these issues, because when they tell me, and excuse me, they have been talking for two months that we must ‘reject in order to reform’, I ask, what reforms have they proposed to the current Constitution of ’80? Have they said something about gender parity or original peoples?
“I have a relationship with them, I am a civilized guy, but there comes a time when they have not complied. They dragged their feet for many years, so there is a legitimate distrust or doubt on the part of the center-left and the left about what the Right. Today, they have the obligation to put meat to their reform of rejecting in order to reform; they have not done it,” he sentenced.
