Lady in White with HIV is sent home due to lack of medicines in hospital

Havana Cuba. — The leader of the Ladies in White, Berta Soler, denounced in social networks the behavior of health personnel from the Comandante Manuel Fajardo Clinical Surgical Hospital (Havana) towards Yaquelín Heredia Morales, a member of the opposition organization, who was admitted to that medical center.

As reported by the activist in her post, Heredia Morales is an HIV patient, is immunosuppressed and has presented warning symptoms: high fever, high blood pressure, swollen glands and skin conditions.

The doctors —says Soler— started a treatment with Rocephin and serums. On the third day they switched to intravenous Sulfaprim, which would be maintained for ten days.

“But today, the 13th, other doctors show up and tell him that he has to do the treatment at home orally, since they don’t have any more medicine in the hospital.”

The opponent alleges in her complaint that if there are no resources in hospitals, fewer patients have at home. In this sense, she questions whether Cuba is really a “medical power” and cries out that the Cuban people do not continue to be abandoned to their fate.

What happened to the Lady in White Yaquelín Heredia adds to the countless claims of Cuban citizens who, regardless of their political affiliation, are suffering firsthand from the shortage of personnel, drugs, supplies and equipment to provide decent care in the centers of health.

A few days ago a mother tried to offer a homemade solution of doubtful efficacy to immobilize fractures, given the lack of plaster in hospitals. His attitude was highly criticized by netizens due to the prevailing conformism among those who suffer and see their loved ones suffer, with no other response than resignation.

Complaints rain daily about the shortage of ambulances, rehydration fluids, disposable syringes, the lack of education and sensitivity on the part of the personnel who work in hospitals, as well as the terrible hygienic-sanitary conditions in which most of the centers are found. of health.
