Lack of supergas is complicating the storage and export of soybeans

cromo

Within the framework of one of the largest soybean harvests in the country in recent days and in the midst of a trade union conflict over Salary Councils in the supergas sector, grain collectors are concerned about not being able to dry the harvest in a timely manner and about the logistical complications for export.

Juan Foderé, general manager and director of Fadisol, denounced on his Twitter account: “Because of the Riogas union we are unable to dry in Nueva Palmira and Ombúes de Lavalle”.

As Foderé explained to The Observer, 20 days ago the company was supplied with 50% of the supergas receipt capacityand this Sunday they expected a new delivery, to continue drying the soybeans, but the fuel did not arrive. When they called Riogas to complain about the order, the company informed them that due to a union dispute the truck had not been able to leave the plant.and did not confirm when the issue might be fixed, though he did convey that it would be in the next few days.

With large loads of soybeans and a harvest that has good levels of productivity, as various producers have commented, it is seen with concern not being able to dry the grain, since deliveries for export are delayed, and storage logistics are also complicated.

“We have a high percentage of soybeans in the silos without being able to dry them, and that complicates shipments”commented Foderé, who explained that they have to make changes and “seek solutions with third parties” to be able to manage the large collection of grain, which continues to come from the farms. The good thing is that there was no loss of grain quality, he said.

Foderé maintained that the harvest “has been very good for the entire production chain.”

a wet harvest

In order for soybeans to be exported, it must have a humidity of 14%and the daily average of the grains that reach the Fadisol plants is 15%, reported the collector, so it is necessary to dry them.

The harvest of this harvest “has come more humid, different from what we were used to receiving”, I indicate. This is because at the end of april there was significant rainfall and “the weather was not on our side” because it was not so cold, he explained. This, added to the fact that there is a greater productive volume, has made the collectors have to dry large volumes of cargo. Foderé assured that it is not complicated to dry large volumes in a short time. “The issue is that we need the gas,” he assured.

This has not been the only trade union conflict that has affected the harvest, since weeks ago a problem in the port sector also worried collectors and exporters.

The situation is closely followed, in the midst of a very positive campaign for the oilseed, with high demand and prices abroad and good productivity and quality in the farms, in a harvest that “has been very good for the entire production chain. We hope that this can happen and it is just an anecdote, “said the businessman.

In the 2021/2022 harvest, just over 1 million hectares of soybeans were planted. With an estimated average yield of just over 2,700 kilos per hectare, it will allow the harvest of around 3 million tons, almost all of which is exported. It is estimated that foreign sales of the country’s main agricultural crop may reach a floor of some US$1.75 billion this year.
