Saint Dominic .-Prevention. Mental Health Week begins today, in the face of challenges such as the lack of social justice, which negatively impacts the emotional health of the population.
This was indicated by psychologist Amaury Ramírez, who highlighted the need to provide a comprehensive vision of social well-being.
“When we talk about mental health, we refer to a state of balance of the individual at a sociological, biological and psychological level,” explained the former president of the Dominican College of Psychologists (Codopsi).
Ramírez added that, to promote a state of well-being and improve the mental health of the population, it is essential to consider psychosocial factors such as the unemployment rate, crime, violence and educational quality.
In addition, he pointed out that access to public services, such as health, water and sanitation; The right to housing, to feel safe, a decent income, and the limited coverage of the Health Risk Administrators (ARS) also influence people’s well-being.
And mental health, as he specified, is not only a provision of psychiatric or psychological services, it is also having a social state that guarantees the full development of individuals in their society.
“If we take it from this perspective, we are then very far from having social well-being, because to achieve it we must make substantial improvements in all the spheres that impact human well-being,” Ramírez emphasized.
In that sense, he pointed out that, sometimes, there are approaches that are only aimed at helping people manage situations of high stress and anxiety, but we must analyze what the psychosocial factors are that are generating these problems to mitigate the situation from the genesis.
