The representative of the bus drivers of Tacna and Arica, Javier Cabrera, requested that the Regional Directorate of Transport and Communications enable the control area for the control of “pirate” units for international service when the land border with Chile is reopened on 1 of May.

The leader said that there are a hundred units, where 80% correspond to Chilean vehicles that provided an irregular service until before the pandemic and even set up an informal terminal in the garages behind the Tacna Central Market.
Chile does control the sector
Cabrera stressed that the Chilean Transport Seremi has sent 40 inspectors to the international terminal to fine the informal units for when the trips begin in May, but on the Tacneño side there are no inspectors.

“In the Directorate of Transportation they do not have vehicles or personnel for inspection and it is necessary when affecting the units authorized for the service,” he said.
The request will also be made to the Provincial Municipality of Tacna so that the Sub-Management of Transport can carry out the inspection in the city and end informality.
