On Tuesday night, the consulting firm Cifra presented a new citizen perception survey of the Luis Lacalle Pou government, which found that the president has 47% approval and 42% disapproval.

The Cifra measurement indicates that 8 out of 10 voters of the multicolor coalition are “satisfied” with the management of the right-wing president, while of those who identify themselves as members of the Front, only 1 in 10 supported him.

“The judgments about the president’s management are more positive in the interior of the country than in the capital. In Montevideo today, opinions are very divided, and a slight majority disapproves of Lacalle Pou’s performance, while in the interior those who approve exceed those who disapprove by 10 percentage points,” Cifra points out in the summary of his survey.

“Differences are also observed according to educational level. The opinions of the majority of the population, who have primary or secondary education, are very divided: almost as many approve as disapprove. On the other hand, among the minority with more formal education, a clear majority has a positive view of the management of Lacalle Pou”, adds the company.

Low approval and high disapproval

Thus, the approval of the coalition president fell 8 points so far in 2022: in February he had 55% and now 47%.

For its part, disapproval grew from 34% to 42% in the same period.

“If the changes over these three years of government are evaluated, during the first year the average approval was 63%, a percentage that dropped to just 60% during the second year. In this, his third year in office, the average approval rating is 50 points. The annual approval, then, fell 3 points between 2020 and 2021 and 10 points between 2021 and 2022”, highlights the pollster.

“Disapproval, on the other hand, increased more between the first and the second year of government, 11 points, while between 2021 and 2022 it increased 9 points,” it adds in the document.
