The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pouhe fired his submachine gun again criticism against the Frente Ampliowhile he defended his management of the government during the coronavirus pandemic and other national and international events.
When inaugurating a set of rehabilitation works on Route 11, in the section between the city of San José and Santa Lucía for an investment of 13 million dollars from the State, the president sneakily criticized the three leftist governments.
“Among what was taken from us the pandemic, the drought, Russia’s invasion of Ukrainethe price difference with Argentina and a little with Brazil and what we stop collecting, are around US$4.3 billion that the government did not have,” said the liberal president.
“To put it in numbers there are four Ancap from when the public company was founded or there are fifteen Pluna”he ironized, and stated that, despite not having that US$4.3 billion, “a record of work” was made.
“What is there between what the State of society somehow stopped collecting or what it had to spend that generates that gap and a very important number of works that generates a historical record? Well, the first thing there is is enormous respect for Uruguayans,” he questioned.
“We who are the administrators of your money, the first thing we did is that every peso we collected ended up being returned to society and did not end up in pharaonic projects and the money was not wasted,” he asked.
Likewise, he maintained that the problems “made us try to think more and better” and valued crises as “moments of boiling and change.”
Praise from Falero to Lacalle Pou
For his part, the Minister of Transportation and Public Works, José Luis Falero, praised Lacalle Pou. According to the leader, the “commitments assumed” in terms of public works were fulfilled by “attending to the most forgotten payments”, which was possible because “a leader with a clear definition of what he wants to happen” in the territory. He added that the government has been present “from day one, showing its face and taking care of the people.”
The works inaugurated on Route 11 include: four roundabouts, the conditioning of six junctions, the installation of 450 LED lights at intersections, the creation of two third lanes on a three-kilometer route, the establishment of a bicycle lane, the restoration of the old bridge over the Santa Lucía River and the rehabilitation of 15 kilometers of various road sections.
