The president of the Republic Luis Lacalle Pou said that the approval of the Council of Ministers of the social security reform means the “culmination of one process” and “the beginning of another”.
The president referred to the stages that the government went through to reach this result, to the contribution of the five political parties that make up the coalition.
Lacalle Pou said that there was “a need” to do it because “day that passes” the situation is “worsening” more and more.
“It is a reform of social security with a deep dose of solidarity. To start with the smallest pensions,” Lacalle said.
The president said that “It is a necessary, sustainable and solidary reform”. “We do it as an act of national responsibility and we are not going to leave it to the next government, regardless of color or ideology. We are very satisfied. We hope that the Broad Front makes positive contributions. It is a project that can be perfected,” he added.
Lacalle Pou does not consider that carrying out this reform has a political cost. In any case, he added, the one who pays the political cost is the government that knows that “social security must be reformed and it does not do it.”
