The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, said that “surely” he will be the one to speak on the national radio and TV network, in defense of the 135 articles of the Law of Urgent Consideration (LUC) that the referendum on March 27 calls into question.
“so they say”, Lacalle Pou responded enigmatically, when asked if he would be the spokesperson for the national network, formulated in an interview he gave last Thursday 3rd to the central newscast of Canal 12, Telemundo.
The head of state assured that he not only feels “right” and “legal-constitutional protection”, but also with the “obligation to explain” why he defends the “no” in favor of 135 articles of a law that has its “firm”. Although he admits having “fear of stepping on the line” of doing partisan politics; something a president cannot do. Therefore, he explained that he has not been to “assemblies” or “acts.” “I could have gone to places to speak, but I prefer not to, because it will be confused with a political-partisan act”he claimed.
Earlier on the radio show first morning of El Espectador, Lacalle Pou had said, that he felt with “the cream against the glass” for not being able to participate as usual in a campaign and that the LUC is a law without “attraction” to “defend or attack” and that is why “lettuce and tomato are put into it” to discuss other issues.
