Lacalle Pou released his custodian Alejandro Astesiano

President Luis Lacalle Pou released his custodian Alejandro Astesiano on Tuesday, after he was charged with three crimes: assumption of marital status in real reiteration, association to commit a crime and influence peddling.

The president had said this Monday at a press conference that he would wait for the actions of the justice system to make a determination. The president pointed out that he had “indication” of the illicit activities of the custodian of him. “If there was even the slightest indication, I would not give him the most precious thing I have, which is my family,” Lacalle said.

This Tuesday, at a press conference, the president acknowledged that he was aware of Astesiano’s police notes, but stated that “there was no background” in his file.

“When we asked for Alejandro Astesiano’s file, there was no criminal record. None”the president said about the background of his custodian.

In addition to his accusation, the prosecution ordered the precautionary measure of preventive detention for 30 days for the accused due to a possible risk of hindering the investigation. The custodian requested special prison conditions because where people are being held today are those who have been involved in an episode of insecurity with their children.

The prosecutor in the case, Gabriela Fossati, said that Astesiano was charged as “legal primary”. “At the legal level there are two different institutes: absolute primary and legal primary. He is a primary legal person,” said the prosecutor in the case, Gabriela Fossati. “Everything that is prior to that circumstance belongs to his sphere of privacy and I am not going to provide information,” she said.
