President Luis Lacalle Pou participated this Thursday afternoon in the inauguration of the 108th edition of Expo Durazno, where referred to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. “At the moment, is changing the worldthousands of kilometers from here,” he said.
“Sometimes we do not realize in this interconnected life that we have that, in the 21st century, there are people who have not fully understood that violence is not the way to resolve conflicts,” he said in his speech. He went on to say that despite “dozens of mechanisms to improve our relations”, the largest countries continue “putting the leg to the smallest” and expressed his solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
The president argued that in addition to “death and destruction”, the world is changing in economic terms. He talked about the rise in the price of commoditiesand declared: “We do not live off the evil of others, but what is happening is that raw materials and food had a substantial riseas well as some inputs”. He later made reference to the rise in fuels and raw materials for fertilizers.
Lacalle Pou had already communicated its rejection of the Russian invasion this Thursday morning on his Twitter account.
