The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, met this Sunday in Qatar with businessmen from that country and offered them investment incentives if they bring their capital to work on Uruguayan soil, while advocating for long-term business relationships.

The meeting, held at the luxurious Doha Sheraton hotel, was also attended by Mohammed bin Towar Al Kuwari, first vice president of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce, along with an important group of businessmen from this monarchical Arab nation, governed by Emir Tamin ben Hamad Al Zani.

Bin Towar Al Kuwari said he hopes the meeting will lead to new instances of bilateral cooperation, which could be improved because the exchange is currently weak. He added that both nations offer stable and attractive investment climates and invited Qatari and Uruguayan businessmen to test what investment opportunities the other nation would offer and analyze the possibility of creating companies with bi-national private funds.

For Victoria Francolino, director general for International Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the chambers of commerce of the two countries have already established contact to increase cooperation.
