After a few initial weeks on the margins of the campaign towards the referendum of the Law of Urgent Consideration (LUC)President Luis Lacalle Pou assumed in recent days a greater role for the No, which will remain in the final stretch until the vote on March 27.
Throughout February, as the campaigns of both commands intensified, Lacalle Pou had chosen to lower the profile and delegate the protagonism of the campaign to the leaders and directors of each one of the parties of the coalition.
At that time, from the ruling party they had affirmed to The Observer that the president would wait to come out at the “key moments” of the campaign, something that began to happen in recent days, particularly after Lacalle Pou’s appearance at the General Assembly on March 2.
Since then, Lacalle Pou resumed an intense public agendagranted two journalistic interviews, and announced that in the week prior to the referendum he will give a press conference – instead of a broadcast – as the spokesperson for the No to the repeal of the 135 articles of the LUC.
This Saturday, Lacalle once again asserted his “right” and “obligation” to manifest his explicit defense of the norm that has become the flagship of his government. “What I am going to do for sure (…) is to sit in front of a camera in front of you to give my point of view of what this law that we promote is about,” he said at a press conference.
“I feel I have the right and almost the obligation to sit in front of a camera, say these things and after all of you, on behalf of the citizens, ask me everything you have to ask me”he added.

This Saturday, Lacalle participated in the Patria Gaucha in Tacuarembó and in the National Horse Festival in Dolores (Soriano). This Monday, the president will attend the inauguration of the UTEC Regional Technical Institute in Minas (Lavalleja).
The latest survey by Equipos Consultores showed a 35% adherence to No and 34% adherence to Yes, with 28% undecided. Among those who do not have a definition, two thirds reside in the interior of the country, and 48% say they approve of Lacalle Pou’s management.
Although in the ruling party they cling to the profile of the undecided to consider that they reach the defining stage with some advantage over the Yes, their main referents emphasize that the election has not been won and that the coalition must redouble efforts to avoid a surprise on March 27th.
