The president of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pouduring his visit this Tuesday to the National Expoactivafor the first time it was expressed on the lawsuit that Conaprole initiated against the State for US$ 61.8 millionconsequence of the debt that the cooperative has not been able to collect after an export to Venezuela.
The dairy export business to Venezuela was developed between 2015 and 2019.
The president, after inaugurating the summer harvest and winter planting during the exhibition that takes place in Soriano, said: “Once again, unfortunately, the mistakes of some have to be paid for by the entire Uruguayan people, if Justice rules in favor of the industry”.
The president maintained that the producers were encouraged to participate in that export business, which was ultimately unsuccessful.
“Like when we were kids, the producers were told ‘let’s go, there’s sand, let’s go, the business is a success,'” he said, and immediately remarked that this was “a mistake.”
According to the Minister of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP), Fernando Mattos, US$ 31.8 million of what is claimed corresponds to missing payments for shipments of powdered milk that were sent to Venezuela, and on the other hand there are US$ 30 million more that are claimed for damages.
This Tuesday, Lacalle Pou visited the National Expoactiva, whose 25th edition takes place until Saturday the 19th in a property located at km 253 of route 2, with the organization of the Soriano Rural Association (ARS).
