The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, shot once again against the press, in this case against the media tv city and The Daily, for disseminating dozens of chats taken from the phone of Alejandro Astesiano, the former head of presidential custody -and a highly trusted person in the Lacalle family-. This is pointed out as the main person responsible for leading a large criminal organization that sold false passports and carried out private and irregular surveillance using systems of the Ministry of the Interior.
For Lacalle Pou, the two mentioned media have some sort of political intention, and he gave more emphasis to the leaks than to their content.
“It is clear that the conversations, the chats, the messages, since September 29, someone gave it to one or two media outlets. You know them, they are your colleagues. These two media outlets clearly have a political link. Clearly. These media outlets, daily or weekly, are filtering information, put on the music, and all of us who are here dance to the rhythm of the music that two media outlets put on,” said the right-wing president at a press conference in the department Thirty-Three.
“I intentions I cannot adjudicate. Thats the reality. If I said something that is not true, please correct me. I understand that you are not going to talk about colleagues, but you know better than I what the situation is and how it is dosed. What’s more, I don’t ask for an answer either, but you know one or two days before which chat is going to come out. Because those colleagues are in charge of calling and saying which chat is going to be around. I am not going to adjudicate intentions because it does not correspond to me. I’m talking about what happens,” added the president.
In 2022, when he visited the headquarters of the Broad Front to explain the draft of the Social Security reform, the president had already hinted at the supposed political inclination that he believes TV Ciudad has. Forming a press conference, he joked that they put “local media first” and then, with a laugh, added: “tv city”.
