The President Luis Lacalle Pou confessed that has a “ranking of ministers” based on how satisfied are you with the management of each one and said that Luis Alberto Heber generates “tranquility” in command of the National Police in an interview published this Thursday by the weekly Voces.
When asked if he was encouraged to make a ranking of ministers, the president replied: “I am encouraged, but not publicly. In fact, I have them ranked. They do not know.”
Regarding the security situation, Lacalle was consulted about Heber’s management at the head of the Ministry of the Interior and his entry after the death of Jorge Larrañaga.
For Lacalle, Heber is someone from “extreme confidence”. “He is a good person, who dedicates himself to political activity and to the government”, valued the president. And he assured that generates “tranquility” in the command of the Police.
However, he stated that the change of role from the Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MTOP) to the Ministry of the Interior “was not the best thing that happened in life” to Heber. “He was happy and well in the [MTOP]. But I needed a Minister of the Interior. The Ministry of the Interior was called the government minister for a reason,” he said.
“I think he’s doing things right, seriously”Lacalle emphasized and pointed out that Heber is “one of the few leaders” with whom he feels “with the freedom to tell him the hardest things and know that he will take it well.”
Likewise, on the issue of public safety, he stressed that robberies, theft, cattle rustling, and domestic violence “continue to decline,” although acknowledged that “we have a problem with homicides”.
“We are tightening and tightening, and suddenly you see that some deaths occur in a chain, in some specific areas, as happened, for example, in the Peñarol neighborhood. I think the ability to anticipate can help us prevent these homicides“, declared Lacalle and affirmed that they are due to drug trafficking, although he preferred not to justify it.
