The president Luis Lacalle Pou today led the 2024 Export Effort Recognition ceremony, an event organized by the Bank of the Republic (BROU) and the Union of Exporters of Uruguay. During his speech, Lacalle Pou took the opportunity to address the perception of the conflict between the public and private sectors, mentioning that it is crucial to demystify these rivalries.
The president stressed that it is “incredible” that this confrontation is still being talked about, pointing out that the debate between the State and the market is outdated. “Courage today is in the center, not at the extremes,” he said, urging those present to avoid extremism and encourage constructive dialogue.
Lacalle Pou also highlighted the work of the BROU, highlighting the ability of its president, Salvador Ferrer, and his team to extract the best from national resources. The president emphasized that a sensitive State is essential to adapt to circumstances and that the private sector is essential for the development of the country.
In another highlight of his agenda, Lacalle Pou met with Colombian President Gustavo Petro at his residence, where both leaders shared a space to discuss various topics. At the end of the meeting, Petro received a jasmine as a courtesy gift and praised the capacity for dialogue in Uruguay, contrasting it with the polarization facing Colombia. “Here there is no right that wants to eliminate the left, but rather to dialogue,” said the Colombian president, highlighting the importance of this approach for peace in his country.
