The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, said on Tuesday that the fires in recent weeks, which have devoured more than 36,000 hectares in Río Negro and Paysandú, are the responsibility of the previous government, despite the fact that when he took office he promised “not to blame nobody ”after a year of government.

“We are almost doing the dance of the rain,” he said at a press conference in San Javier, Río Negro, adding: “The livestock and agricultural issue needs rain now and then a fall of rain at the end of January and the beginning of February. I’m talking specifically about soy ”.

Blaming the administration of the late former president Tabaré Vázquez, he commented: “I don’t know if the reins were loosened; I’m not talking about this government, I’m talking about the previous one, perhaps it should have been stricter ”.
