This Wednesday, March 2, President Lacalle Pou gave an account before the General Assembly, within the framework of the beginning of the Third Ordinary Period of Sessions.
In his speech, the president stated that the Law that regulates union legal status will be promoted.
He assured that this year 2022 “will begin the process of recovering the purchasing power of the salary.”
He stressed that employment definitely recovered in 2021 and he has the best expectations for this process to continue advancing in 2022.
He said that the growth projection of the Ministry of Economy for 2021 was updated in February to 4.5%, one point more than expected in the last Rendering of Accounts.
“During the first half of the year, poverty in Uruguay was reduced to 10.2% of the population, with an improvement of almost 1.5 percentage points compared to the average for the year 2020 (11.6%). This reduction implies that there are approximately 50 thousand fewer people than in 2020, below the poverty line”, he assured.
He added that the total number of people under the indigence line stood at “0.2% in the first half of 2021, half of the 2020 record (0.4%) and standing at the same levels as in 2019, pre-pandemic” .
On the other hand, the president affirmed that “the discussion is not more or less about the State, but about taking care of public resources and being fair when spending or investing them.”

Lacalle announced that “if satisfactory results are obtained in the economy, in the year 2023, it will reduce the Social Security Assistance Tax (IASS) and increase deductions in the lower bands of the Personal Income Tax (IRPF). ).
