Labor reform: the last four missing articles have already been approved

The plenary session of the House of Representatives approved the last four articles that needed to be debated in the labor reform project. Now, the project remains to discuss 140 new articles that we want to add to the initiative.

The articles that were approved at noon this Thursday, October 17, were 60 (labor protection against the automation of activities), 61 (labor protection against decarbonization processes and energy transition), 79 (validity) and 80 (repeals). ).

(See: ‘The reform will leave labor rights for a minority’).

Minister Gloria Inés Ramírez had said that protection against automation and decarbonization were ‘vital’ within the objectives that the National Government seeks with the reform.

We all know that 40% of jobs are at risk, but we also think that there is an impact of technology that is important to keep in mind, because it could also generate jobs.“said Mintrabajo Ramírez, who added that it seeks to protect “those who are behind the machine, the robotics, the drones.”

And about decarbonization: “We will protect the workforce that enters the decarbonization process, as we make clean energy. We protect the planet and we have to protect people through knowledge, doing job reconversion and providing guarantees so that in six months or a year they are trained to reconvert their profession or look for a new job.“.

Ramírez also explained that The labor reform is accompanied by a process of unemployment support:There is a subsidy that we are working on and we are strengthening it to reward and provide opportunities for Colombia to continue advancing“.

After the debate of the 140 new articles, The reform will be officially approved in the second debate and may go to the Senate, where it will have to be discussed in the Seventh Commission and, if passed, in plenary.
