This Wednesday, October 2, the discussion of labor reform in the plenary session of the House of Representatives continued and the National Government achieved a very important victory, as said Minister of Labor, Gloria Inés Ramírez, with the approval of one of the most important articles of the project.
It is about the article 13, which speaks of day and night work and modifies article 160 of the Substantive Labor Code.
Thus, the article changes the daytime and nighttime work schedules: the first would be in the period between 6 am and 7 pm, and the second would start at 7 pm and go until 6 am the next day.
With this approval, the night time would drop a couple of hours and start, as already explained, at 7 p.m.
For now, this proposal is approved, but we must wait for the entire reform to pass the plenary session of the Chamber and then reach the Senate, where the article and the project must be approved both in committee and in plenary to become a reality.
Regarding the approval of article 13, Minister Ramírez assured that it is a triumph for rights in Colombia.
Representative María Fernanda Carrascal, speaker of the initiative, said that with this proposal “Working families are closer to recovering the rights and economic well-being they lost in the last 20 years. This is a fundamental step to change the labor and production model imposed by Uribism based on the precariousness of employment and the impoverishment of workers.“.
For now, more than 30 articles of the labor reform have been approved, which will continue its discussion in the second week of October.
