Uypress – President Yamandú Orsi met on Wednesday 27 in Executive Tower with representatives of the Confederation of Business Chambers (CCE), headed by its president, Leonardo Loureiro. Orsi was accompanied by the Secretary of the Presidency, Alejandro Sánchez.
The cameras raised President Orsi during the meeting to concern work conflict. “There are some surveys that are marking that there may be a decrease in industrial and private investment,” Loureiro warned, and added that conflict is “the issue that is set as a reason” to reduce investment expectations. At a press conference, he recognized a “good relationship” between the cameras and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, although he said they would prefer “other types of resolutions.”
Loureiro contextualized the business concern “within the framework of the wages advice”, whose negotiation tables began working in July. To this, he added the development of an agenda of themes “too populated” with issues that should be addressed “later.” Among the issues of this agenda, it included “the [impuesto al 1% de los más ricos del Uruguay] of 1%”and“ the reduction of the working day ”.
For the representative of the cameras, the social dialogue already has a series of issues “that will have an impact on the business sector”, such as “care”, the protection of active workers and what is linked to “retirements and pensions.”
Budget: Economic measures “are only those raised by Minister Oddone”
The Budget Law for Quinquenio will be presented by the Government this Sunday 31, at 7:00 p.m., at the Legislative Palace. This project was also one of the issues addressed in the meeting of the cameras with President Orsi.
Loureiro told the media that the economic measures that they dialogue during the exchange in Executive Tower “are only those raised by Minister Oddone, which were public”, in reference to the tax changes that the head of the MEF advanced in Radiomundo.
First, the budget will include the minimum global tax agreed in 2021 in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), aimed at the multinationals present in the country. Secondly, a lien to the capital gains generated abroad by Uruguayans residing in our country.
In addition, the budget project incorporates VAT to purchases made abroad on platforms such as Temu, a measure held by Loureiro because it shows that the government “listened to business chambers.” However, “it does not end up being sufficient” since its impact reduces the price gap little with the products imported by franchises.
Finally, Loureiro said that the president will attend one of the main events organized by the Rural Association. It will be on Friday, September 5 at 4:00 p.m., within the framework of the Prado Rural Exhibition. Together with the president, Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin, Labor and Social Security, Juan Castillo, and Sánchez will attend.
