La Sedena changes its acronym to Defense

Gustavo Castillo

La Jornada Newspaper
Sunday, November 10, 2024, p. 6

The Secretariat of National Defense reported that yesterday it changed its acronym after 87 years of having been officially created, so it will be identified as Defense and will stop using the word Sedena. He added that its institutional image on its website has already been transformed.

In an informative note he announced that this variation counts with authorization of the President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and it is due to the fact that the word Defense better associates the institution with its original mission, referring to the external defense of the Federation, contained in article 89, section VI, of the Magna Carta.

This change will allow Mexican society and national and international institutions to have more clarity about the main function of the Secretariat of National Defense and greater understanding and coordination of all the activities carried out in this area for the benefit of Mexicans.he pointed out.

This does not modify the identification of the bodies that make up the Defense Staff, such as the Mexican Air Force and the Mexican Army.
