La Roja smiles: FIFA accepts ANFP appeal and Chile will be able to play with the public against Uruguay in the last match of the Qualifiers

The National Association of Professional Football (ANFP) through a statement reported that the Chilean team will be able to play with the local public against Uruguay for the last match of the Qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. This after the FIFA Appeals Committee will modify the sanction that was initially imposed on the national team.

“The FIFA Appeals Committee modified the decision of the Disciplinary Committee that had sentenced Chile to play the match against Uruguay on March 29 without an audience for discriminatory behavior in the match against Ecuador,” the statement said.

“The appeals committee determined that it will replace the punishment corresponding to the last date of the Qatar 2022 World Cup Qualifiers to play with a limited number of attendees, corresponding to 75 percent of the available seats in the stadium (venue to be confirmed)” , they add.

Meanwhile, the president of the ANFP, paul milad commented that “I congratulate the legal commission of the ANFP, which did a very good job in the appeals and we were able to reverse the ruling that conditioned us to play without an audience, and now we can play with 75% of the capacity”.

In addition, he added that “the venue is yet to be defined, we are evaluating playing in the provinces or in Santiago, depending on the state of the field and the amount of capacity that we can include in the stadium.”
