The communal president, Elvis Cano Mendoza, said that the National Water Authority (ANA) Mantaro authorized the work without informing the population. In turn, the mayor of Huari, Adrián Yarasca, warned that the activity directly damages the community members.
Last week, the Municipality of La Oroya and the Police temporarily paralyzed the work. The settlers demand that the Ana delimit with GPS the allowed areas and suspend the extraction in unauthorized areas, warning protests if there is no solution.

They also denounced contamination in the river, whose waters are used for irrigation in the Mantaro Valley. According to the commune, the company has 60 days to remove 1,000 m³ of material, but would be extracting that amount in just one week.
