La Moneda confirms investigation by Chinese “police base” in Viña del Mar

The Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, confirmed that an investigation is being carried out, following a publication that assures that there is a Chinese “police base” in the city of Viña del Mar.

“We can only say in this regard that this is a case that has an international character, we are willing and active, contributing to this investigation through the Investigative Police,” said the Secretary of State, after the cabinet council this Friday. in La Moneda.

“As long as there is relevant information to communicate to the public, we will tell them about it,” declared Minister Tohá, adding that “for now we are participating in the investigation.”

The NGO Safeguard Defenders published last Wednesday in the US magazine Newsweek the existence of “police service centers” in China, which would be located in more than 20 countries, including Chile.

The agency specified that there is one of these centers in Viña del Mar, Valparaíso Region, within the framework of a set of measures taken by the public security of the counties of Fozhou and Qintgtan, of the coastal provinces of Fujian and Zhejiang, to ” fight against transnational crime.
