Through a short video, the former political kidnapped affirmed that Nicaragua has become one of the largest prisons in Latin America, where many families are still kidnapped.

“There are still political weights – in the different prisons of the country – and that we have to advocate for them,” said the opponent, who on March 12 will be turning 38.

“Chance for Unity”

“Let’s continue in this fight, let’s not forget that it is God who freed us, it was not a man, but we thank the president of the United States — Joe Biden — who did the necessary procedures,” he added.

Regarding the exile to which he was subjected by Daniel Ortega, Edward Lacayo said he did not lose hope of returning to “a Nicaragua in permanent freedom, without any repression.”

The opponent, originally from the Cuatro Esquina neighborhood, in Masaya, was held captive since March 15, 2019 in the Jorge Navarro de Tipitapa Penitentiary System, known as “La Modelo”, forced to pay a 15-year prison sentence for the alleged organized crime and drug transportation.
