La Libertad: They will clean 113 kilometers of canals in Virú

The Regional Government of La Libertad will help clean 113 km of canals in the Virú Valley in order to facilitate the irrigation of more crop fields and take advantage of the water within the framework of the fourth stage of Chavimochic. This will benefit 2,300 farmers.

This was confirmed by the regional governor Joana Cabrera, who was accompanied by the board of directors of the Board of Water Users of the Minor Virú Hydraulic Sector, to whom she handed over the use of a long arm excavator to meet the aforementioned goal, after inspecting the situation of the drains in the El Carmelo sector.

“This benefit occurs after having signed an agreement with the User Boards of the Chavimochic areas of competence, seeking to help them with what they need most. Water is life and basic to sustain agriculture. Their sacrifice helps feed many people. It is for them that we are working with great dedication,” he said.

The machinery awarded was purchased by the Chavimochic Special Project (PECh) and valued at 2 million soles. According to manager Jhon Cabrera, in the El Carmelo sector, this year, work was done on clearing 6 km of canals.

The user board and the mayor of Virú, Javier Mendoza, considered that the presence and support of the regional authority is transcendent and well received by 2,300 farmers who will benefit from the better use of water.

Additionally, in response to the population’s query about their roads, the governor assured that the pool of machinery delivered a few months ago to the Provincial Municipality of Virú will continue working on the improvement of roads in populated centers, and arranged for the permanent supply of fuel to expand this type of support.

In the upper area of ​​the Virú Siphon, at the request of farmers from the San Ildefonso, San Francisco, El Alto and Los Calatos sectors, Joana Cabrera undertook to create the profile for a definitive work on the siphon conduction line to the aforementioned localities.
