Part of the roof of the Tayabamba police station, capital of the Andean province of Pataz, in La Libertad, collapsed yesterday morning, apparently as a result of the intense rains that fall in that district and the lack of maintenance of police facilities.
The information was confirmed by the Regional Emergency Operations Center (COER) of La Libertad, which stated that the collapse of the structure occurred at 8:08 am.
CONSEQUENCES
According to the COER, the roof collapse affected a reception room, a main office and two bedrooms at the police station.
Although the rest of the spaces in the police station were not damaged, the operations center warned that “the entire infrastructure of the Tayabamba police station is at risk of collapse.”
Fortunately, only material damage was reported. “There are no injured police officers, much less deceased.”indicated journalistic media in the area.
According to a photograph that circulates on social networks, the police station is made of rustic material and the ceiling was made of tiles. The six cabins seen in the image were not damaged.
After the emergency, Civil Defense personnel from the Provincial Municipality of Pataz (MPP) went to the scene to assess the damage and analyze the needs of police personnel.

This situation occurs at a time when the province of Pataz is in a state of emergency due to the presence of criminal organizations that have unleashed a war for gold. These clashes have left dozens of fatalities, including personnel from companies dedicated to the extraction of the mineral.
The measure came into effect in February of last year and the last time it was extended occurred on October 6, for a period of 60 calendar days.
