La Libertad: Mayor of Pataz awaits authorization to visit former president Pedro Castillo

From Plaza San Martín, the mayor of Pataz (La Libertad), Aldo Carlos Mariños, announced his intention to visit former president Pedro Castillo, as soon as the prison authorities allow him to do so.

The statement was made before holding a meeting with the transitional president, José Jerí. This was announced by the municipal authority during its so-called “March of Sacrifice.”

“Today I announce in this square that as soon as you give me the space and allow me to visit you, I am going to go greet our former president who was elected by the people, gentlemen,” expressed Carlos Mariños.

He made the announcement in front of the people who accompanied him to the Historic Center of Lima. He will go to the Barbadillo prison to meet the former president who was vacated in December 2022 for an attempted coup d’état.

On the other hand, ruled out running for the presidency of the Republicbecause it does not comply with an essential requirement in the electoral law. He maintained that he is not affiliated with any political party.
