The Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Plant, in Matanzas, left the National Electric System (SEN) this Tuesday due to a failure in the boiler, reported the Electrical Union of Cuba (UNE).
The incident occurred at 9:28 am, according to the journalist Jose Miguel Soliswho explained that The cause was a failure in the automatic boiler control protection.a breakdown similar to the one recorded in September, when the SEN temporarily collapsed.
On this occasion, a general fall of the SEN was avoided, the journalist said.
According to engineer Román Pérez Castañeda, The unit is expected to return to the system before 10 p.m.once the boot process is complete.
This process could take between two and three hours, confirmed the plant’s deputy director of production, Jorge Gómez.
Energy crisis: all units in Santa Cruz del Norte and Renté remain disconnected
The departure of Guiteras occurs in a deep context energy crisis in Cubamarked by breakdowns and prolonged maintenance in several thermoelectric plants.
Currently, the Ernesto Guevara plants, in Santa Cruz del Norte, and Antonio Maceo (Renté), in Santiago de Cuba, keep all their units out of service.
The decrease in thermal generation aggravates the lack of electrical capacity and maintains the blackouts prolonged periods that affect the country.
According to the UNE forecast, For this Tuesday’s peak schedule, an availability of 1,730 MW was estimated compared to a demand of 3,400 MW.which implies a deficit of 1,670 MW.
If Guiteras fails to synchronize in time, the deficit could increase by another 220 MW.
