The opposition party La Causa R warned this Tuesday that the country is not going through a real political transition as long as the ruling party retains control of the repressive apparatus and the detention of political prisoners continues, after the capture of Nicolás Maduro and the swearing-in of Delcy Rodríguez as acting president.
Through a statement released by the leader Andres Velasquez On social network X, the organization questioned Chavismo’s attempts to influence the open political process after recent events.
“In La Causa R we reject the regime’s intention to attack the transition process, trying to stop the Venezuelans’ decision to change, the popular will is not erased or replaced and no one has the right to silence it,” the party said.
La Causa R reiterated that Edmundo González Urrutia was the true winner of the presidential elections of July 28, 2024despite the fact that the National Electoral Council (CNE) proclaimed Maduro as re-elected president without publishing the detailed results of the electoral process.
“The Venezuelan people previously delivered a resounding defeat to Nicolás Maduro with their sovereign vote, which he and his accomplices were unaware of, imposing an usurpation by blood and fire, leaving in their wake thousands of political prisoners, injured and murdered people, and numerous exiled, exiled and persecuted leaders,” the political group denounced.
Chavista permanence in power prevents transition
The party also referred to attack carried out by the United States last Saturday in Caracas and in three nearby states, considering that these events have their origin in the breakdown of the institutional order.
For the organization, the attack “is a consequence of the breaking of the constitutional thread, the violation of popular sovereignty that was expressed on July 28, 2024 and the implementation of corrupt practices that violate all national and international legislation.”
In this framework, La Causa R reiterated that the permanence of Chavismo in power makes a transition process impossible.
“There is no transition if madurismo continues to direct the destinies of the country,” they stressed.
The statements come while various non-governmental organizations have intensified calls for the release of political prisoners, following the capture of Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, during the US military operation.
This Monday, Delcy Rodríguez was sworn in as president in charge of the head of ParliamentJorge Rodríguez, in an act that opened a new stage for Chavismo after almost 26 years in power.
By decision of the Supreme Court of Justice, Rodríguez became the first woman to assume the leadership of the Venezuelan Executive, two days after the capture of Maduro, who appeared on Monday with his wife before a federal court in New York, where both pleaded not guilty to the charges.
