Kremlin admits contacts with Venezuela about aid to Maduro in the event of a possible US attack

Russia and Venezuela signed a strategic partnership agreement last May during a visit by Maduro to Moscow. This week several Kremlin officials have spoken out about a possible US attack on Venezuela

The Kremlin admitted this Sunday, November 2, that it maintains contacts with Venezuela when asked for information about a possible request for help from Nicolás Maduro to the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.

“We are in contact with our Venezuelan friends,” the spokesman for the Russian Presidency, Dmitri Peskov, told the TASS agency.

According to The Washington Post, Maduro would have asked Russia, China and Iran for help to strengthen the country’s defense against pressure from the United States.

Peskov, who did not directly mention Maduro’s alleged request, stressed, however, that Russia and Venezuela are united by “contractual obligations.”

Russia and Venezuela signed a strategic partnership agreement last May during a visit by Maduro to Moscow.

This Friday, the director of the Department of Information and Press and spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, María Zajárova, also spoke on the social network X about the conflict between the United States and Venezuela.

“We support the leadership of Venezuela in the defense of its national sovereignty, taking into account the dynamics of the international and regional situation,” he said.

The official warned: “We are prepared to respond appropriately to our partners’ requests in light of emerging threats.”

The Maduro administration, which has rejected the attacks from the United States, ensuring that Donald Trump’s only interest is to achieve a regime change in Venezuela, thanked this Friday for the support given by Russia through a message published on Telegram by Foreign Minister Yván Gil.
