The National Council of Education (CNE) approved this Wednesday the School calendar 2022-2023, which will begin on the first of September for teaching staff and on the 19th for students.
According to the note from the Ministry of Educationthe calendar will have 179 working days, equivalent to 37 school weeks of classes for students, and 213 days of teaching work, corresponding to 40 working weeks.
Speaking before the Council, the Minister of EducationRoberto Fulcar, who also chairs the entity, said that the new school year will start with more than five thousand campuses renovated with paint, water, bathrooms, cracks, leaks, and announced that a preventive plan will be applied so that the centers do not arrive to the level of deterioration in which they were found.
Fulcar affirmed that the repairs are carried out with funds managed by the decentralized boards of centers, at the same time that he reported that the equipment of more than 30 general exit high schools was tendered, which as of September will be gradually converted into polytechnic institutes.
Another point approved by the Council is the direct participation in the budget preparation of the Ministry of Education.
The members of the National Council of Education greeted the adjustment to school calendar and the agreed hours-classes, since it is the only way in which the calendar that was in force before the pandemic caused by COVID-19 can be leveled.

Hours of classes by levels
For the Initial Level there will be 895 class-hours for the normal day and 1,432 for the Extended School Day; the education Primary will have 895 hours for the normal school day and 1,432 for the Extended School Day.
The Education Special will have 895 hours, the Education Basic for Youth and Adults, will have 222 hours; Education Semi-Face-to-Face Adult Basic Course will also be 222 hours, while the Education Secondary of the First Cycle of the Academic Modality will have 1,074 hours-classes.
While the Education Secondary Centers of Excellence will have 1,432 class hours and the Art Modality, 1,432. The Technical-Professional will have 1,432, and the Education Adult Blended Learning (Prepara) will be 259 hours for the regular program and 333 for the accelerated one.
The calendar will end on June 23, 2023 for students and June 29 for teachers. The first period September-December will consist of 14 weeks and the second, from January to June, will be 23 weeks. the same will be flexibleas long as it does not violate what is established in the educational curriculum.
Second language
Fulcar said that the evaluations of the teachers who will participate in the intensive program of English as a second language, and that programs aimed at early literacy, solving mathematical problems and promoting logical thinking are being implemented at full capacity, as an action strategy to solve the evil of origin of the Dominican educational system .
The resolution was also approved that launches the National Induction Program (PNI) aimed at teachers who have entered the pre-university public education system after having passed the 2021 opposition contest and who have provisionally started to exercise the teaching function. .
Minister Roberto Fulcar explained that another program that will be implemented in 36 schools in the new school year is “Early Health Prevention for Students,” which will report on their oral, hearing, olfactory, and psychological health, as well as as well as its backbone, in order to identify and prevent any type of permanent interference in the learning of children and adolescents.
