Know the key points of the municipal elections on June 27

Next Sunday, July 27, Venezuela will celebrate its electoral process number 33 from the arrival of the Bolivarian Revolution. This time, the people will choose the 335 mayors already 2,471 councilors that will form local governments throughout the country.

The day is emerging as an opportunity to deepen popular democracy, strengthen communal power and reaffirm the course towards a permanent participation model, said the Plus TV portal.

In parallel, Venezuelan youth will star in an unprecedented national popular consultation, in which more than 37 thousand community projects promoted by young people organized in the 5,338 communal communes and communal circuits of Venezuela will be voted.

With more than 148 thousand registered candidates and an electoral machinery ready to guarantee transparency and efficiency, 27-J will be a new milestone in the construction of popular power.

The Minister of Popular Power for Defense, Vladimir Padrino López, reported on Wednesday that the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) would begin the first phase of deployment of the Republic Plan in the prelude to the municipal elections next Sunday, July 27.

“There is the FANB accompanying the National Electoral Council (CNE) with the Republic Plan, since the morning to take all the voting centers. More than 15 thousand centers will be occupied by the FANB to provide security for citizenship,” said Padrino López in a publication on their digital platforms.

The deployment contemplates the presence of military personnel in the centers enabled by the CNE, as well as the logistics accompaniment to ensure the transfer, installation and protection of the electoral material.

What charges are chosen in the 27-J elections in Venezuela?

This July 27, the Venezuelan people will choose the 335 mayors and 2,471 municipal councilors, directly responsible for the local management and territorial development of the country. It is a key process to continue strengthening the concrete action agenda (ACA) promoted by popular power. They will be chosen:

  • 335 mayors in dispute, one for each municipality in the country.
  • 2,471 councilors will be elected in three modalities:
    • 1,420 per list (60%)
    • 982 by nominal vote (40%)
    • 69 By indigenous representation

It should be noted that the National Electoral Council (CNE) registered a record for participation in the applications with the registration of 148,554 candidacies, a broad, plural and democratic process that consolidates the role of the country’s electoral power as guarantor of popular sovereignty. In this way they participate:

  • 10,594 mayor applicants
  • 55,898 candidates for nominal councilors
  • 81,588 candidates per list
  • 474 indigenous applicants

How many political organizations participate in this common process?

The National Electoral Council confirmed the participation of 53 political organizations in the July 27 elections, consolidating a plural scenario and with a wide electoral offer.

Participation award

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros, ratified on Monday that in Caracas and in all states of the country, the 10 communes and communal circuits with the greatest participation in the first national popular consultation of Youth, to be held on Sunday, July 27, will receive special financing for the execution of a second project that is contemplating in its concrete action agenda (ACA).

“They will have a double award, a fat award (…), it is the second time we are going to do.

He pointed out that the award will be divided between the five communes and communal circuits that achieve the largest total number of votes and the five that obtain the highest percentage of participation in relation to their population, so that both large and smaller communities have the opportunity to be financed.

He stressed that in this first consultation of the youth, 7 projects will be applied in the 5336 communal communes and circuits: “There are a total of 40,432 projects that have been born from the youth genius in the territory, in the community, in the neighborhoods.” Finally, President Maduro invited the entire Venezuelan family to participate in the electoral elections on July 27, where the 335 mayors, municipal councils and the youth projects will be chosen.

The Bolivarian Revolution, has its 335 candidates for mayors, the product of a deep process of consultations with the bases, political evaluations and ideological commitment. In perfect articulation with the great patriotic pole Simón Bolívar, Chavismo conducted a campaign with structure, cohesion and clarity of objectives: to consolidate popular power and continue governing with the people.

Results of May 25: an overwhelming victory of the great patriotic pole

The great patriotic pole Simón Bolívar (GPPSB) swept the elections of governors and legislative of May 25, obtaining 4,553,484 votes, 82.6% of the total. The opposition barely reached 17.3%.

Thus the GPPSB was imposed in 23 of the 24 governments, consolidating its control of territorial power. These results reinforce the favorable tendency to Chavism for 27j.

The opposition: fragmented already defensive

In contrast, the opposition faces a scenario marked by internal division and demobilization. While the parties grouped on the unitary platform – aligned with María Corina Machado – insist on the call to abstention, other sectors decided to compete. Among those who do participate stand out:

  • A new time (by Manuel Rosales)
  • Neighborhood Force, Mas, Change, Solutions, Progressive Advanced
  • The calls judicialized fractions of traditional parties

However, they arrive with little operational capacity and little connection with the electorate. Of the 111 mayors who today have the opposition, analysts foresee that they could barely retain between 30 and 40, concentrated in urban areas such as Chacao, Baruta, El Hatillo, Los Salias, Maneiro or Maracaibo.

How does the political landscape move in these municipal elections?

Opposition surveys and their propaganda machinery anticipate high abstention. However, other analysts differ from these narratives and point out that in places where the electorate feels that participation has real impact, mobilization tends to be greater.

The director of the firm of thephos, Félix Seijas, according to Alma Plus, states that participation will vary greatly according to the municipality, being greater where there is a clear contrast between candidates and change expectations.

Franco Vielma, a Missionary Political Analyst, questions the way in which abstention is measured: he points out that the Venezuelan Electoral Registry (REP) includes millions of voters who reside outside the country and that do not participate in the elections.

According to Vielma, “you cannot evaluate participation on the total base of the REP, but on the registered that are effectively in the country.”

In addition, he warns that many opposition candidates are weak or improvised, which generates apathy and lack of motivation among their own voters.

335 elections, 335 realities

Vielma emphasizes that these elections have a deeply local logic: “We will have 335 elections, with 335 different realities.”

In many municipalities, Chavismo maintains its strength thanks to a combination of territorial presence, local management and concrete social ties. That is the basis of its advantage.

Cela guarantees transparency and vote safety

The president of the Council of Electoral Experts in Latin America (Cela), Nicanor Moscoso, said that the Venezuelan voting system is “completely safe and auditable.”

Before rumors of failures, Moscoso was blunt: “There are no complaints of weaknesses in the system. These narratives respond more to political interests than to real technical problems.”

Look at the future with youth prominence and popular power

This July 27, Venezuela not only reaffirms its commitment to participatory democracy through municipal elections, but also opens a new chapter with the historic national popular consultation of youth.

More than 37 thousand youth projects, the result of creativity and the commitment of young people organized in communes and communal councils, will be subjected to a vote in 5,338 territories. This unprecedented initiative not only makes visible the transforming power of youth, but also strengthens the concrete action agenda, linking local management with the social and productive demands of communities.

As President Nicolás Maduro said, this process is a palpable expression of permanent and revolutionary democracy that Venezuela builds, a model that puts the people in the center of power, encourages co -responsibility and projects a future with a clear direction.

With a consolidated electoral structure, a strong ruling and a fragmented opposition, the country faces these elections with the certainty that popular power will continue to be the main engine of change and stability.
