Santo Domingo.– Saint Dominic will become the headquarters and world capital of international law when the World Jurist Association celebrate its “The World Law Congress” in May next year, which will be attended by hundreds of personalities, including the King of Spain, Felipe VI; and Judge Sonia Sotomayor, of the Supreme Court of the United States.
Judges, lawyers, professors and legal professionals from more than 140 nationalities will participate in the forum, in which they will debate the most relevant topics of international law with the aim of contributing to strengthening the Rule of Law.
The details of the congress were offered at a press conference by Javier Cremades, president of the World Jurist Association; the former president of Colombia, Iván Duque; and José Alejandro Aybar, Chancellor of the University of the Caribbean (UNICARIBE). They had previously met with President Luis Abinader, at the National Palace.
They highlighted the importance for the Dominican Republic of being chosen to host a global activity of this nature in the current situation that humanity is experiencing.
The activity will be organized at a time when the defense of the rule of law and respect for freedoms take on new relevance, demanding the commitment and responsibility of all sectors that influence the international sphere.
Institutional advance
Aybar considered that one of the reasons why the World Jurist Association selected the Dominican Republic as its headquarters is due to the institutional reforms that President Luis Abinader has promoted and is promoting.
He said that this recognition constitutes enormous satisfaction for the Dominican people.
