Kidnapping of Monsignor Álvarez was carried out by “vulgar thieves”

Kidnapping of Monsignor Álvarez was carried out by "vulgar thieves"

The Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights (Cenidh) denounced a series of arbitrariness committed by the Police of the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo in the kidnapping of Monsignor Rolando Álvarez. The Bishop of Matagalpa was locked up in the Episcopal Curia for 15 days with a police cordon that kept him captive inside his religious residence.

“Defiantly, shamelessly, the police in their press release confess to the crimes they are committing. We warn that it is absolutely in violation of any law, any agreement and offensive to intelligence and rationality, to assault the episcopal curia at dawn, like common thieves, as they know how to do it», highlighted the Cenidh in a press release distributed to the media.

The Police at the service of the Ortega regime released press release 078-2022 where they try to wash their hands of the kidnapping of Monsignor Rolando Álvarez, priests and laity, who were forcibly evicted from the Episcopal Curia of Matagalpa early this Friday morning, August 19.

In the letter, the Ortega entity assures that “for several days it waited with great patience, prudence, and a sense of responsibility for a positive communication from the Bishopric of Matagalpa, which never materialized and that, as the destabilizing and provocative activities persisted, made it necessary to the aforementioned public order operation.

Regime “investigates” if the slogan “Bishop, friend, the people is with you” is guided by Monsignor Álvarez.

“State of terror»

The Cenidh assures that the Bishop of Matagalpa He was taken kidnapped to his parents’ house, extending the kidnapping imposed on Monsignor Rolando to his family as well.

“The Ortega Murillo regime is also uprooting, they are abusively transferring the other hostages from Matagalpa to Managua, that explains the large military deployment, the large number of checkpoints around Chipote, where they do not allow lawyers to enter to carry out their efforts, nor to the relatives who bring water to their political prisoners,” emphasizes the human rights organization.

In addition, they state that with these actions of the Ortega-Murillo dictatorship against the bishop, classified as persecution of religious freedom, they did not recover any normality; but they have moved the repression from Matagalpa to Managua. “They have widened and deepened the restlessness, the anxiety. All of Nicaragua is already in a state of terror,” underlines the Cenidh.

The Catholic Church has been the target of attacks by the regime after mediating a failed national dialogue. Her prophetic voice and support for the people has led her to suffer threats, desecration of temples, persecution of her priests and bishops, and the forced exile of some members of the clergy.
