The Buenos Aires government headed by Axel Kicillof recognized that the operation carried out this Thursday night during the match that Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata and Boca were going to play and “was not able to provide security to those who attended” and indicated that it was ordered to remove to the police chief in charge.

“The Governor instructed the Minister of Security so that the Head of the Operation is immediately removed and so that all the elements are made available to the prosecutor who is intervening. We are going to respect the actions of the Justice so that the responsibilities of the facts are determined occurred and we will be strict with the sanctions of those who have not fulfilled their duty,” said the statement released this Friday.

In the text, the government of the province of Buenos Aires “regrets the events that occurred in the framework of the football match between Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata and Club Atlético Boca Juniors, in the city of La Plata.”

“It is inadmissible that thousands of people from La Plata had to live what they lived last night and even more so, that the unfortunate fact that César Regueiro lost his life in the framework of the meeting took place,” he adds.

It also reports that “almost all the people who suffered injuries and received the assistance provided by the provincial health system have already been discharged.”

The statement highlights that, “while the justice system investigates whether the conditions for entering the stadium could have been altered due to an overselling of tickets, it is evident that the operation carried out was not capable of providing security to those who attended.”

Later, it was specified that Kicillof “instructed the Security Minister (Sergio Berni) so that the head of the operation is immediately removed and that all the elements are made available to the prosecutor who is intervening.”

According to reports, it was Commissioner Juan Gorbarán who was in charge of the operation and who was removed.

“We promised to transform the Provincial Police, to improve their working conditions, their equipment and their training to give them a higher degree of professionalism. We are on that path, of course there is still a long way to go but we will not allow basic rules to be breached established for the performance of the security forces”, concludes the official text.

Berni confirmed that the police officer who shot a TyC cameraman has already been removed from the force

After the Governor’s decision, the Buenos Aires Security Minister, Sergio Berni, said that “those responsible for the security operation of the match between Boca and Gimnasia y Esgrima in La Plata will be fired from the Police and confirmed that the cash that fired against a TyC cameraman has already been removed from the force.

Asked about the possibility of leaving his position in the cabinet after the police repression that occurred this Thursday night in the forest of the Buenos Aires capital, the minister stated: “My resignation is available to the governor (Axel Kicillof) every day, but here there are those responsible who had a function to carry out the operation that has not been well resolved”.

“I am the Minister of Security, but there are people in charge who had the function of carrying out this operation and they did not solve it well. I do not consider myself responsible for what happened. I was not in charge of the security operation. For that there is a whole chain command,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, he said that the head of the security operation was “the one who signed the minutes with the club, ordered the operation and was responsible for something that was resolved in the worst way” and considered that what happened last night “is inexplicable.”

Then, the official stated that “for every ticket sold by the AFA, there were 20 courtesy tickets,” he explained that “ticket control is not done by the police, but by the same club that turned a blind eye” and pointed out that, in that context, the spectators who were left outside “were fired up and wanted to enter”.

Berni said that in this situation the head of security “resolved in the worst way a situation that the police obviously did not seek and that was caused by the lack of scruples of those who only want to do business with football.”

Asked why he said this Thursday before the press that the death of a 57-year-old man, identified as Cesar Regueiro, was due to cardiac arrest, Berni replied: “They asked me what the man died of and all I did was transmit the report they gave me from the hospital”.

I also said that even though he did not die from a direct confrontation with the police, his death “could have been prevented.”

Finally, he stated that they worked “all night to try to understand what happened” and stressed that “the prosecutor will begin to investigate with all the elements they have.”

Seven injured fans have been discharged

Seven of the eight fans injured in the serious incidents received medical discharge today, after receiving care in different hospitals, the Buenos Aires government reported in a statement.

“Seven of the eight people admitted yesterday at night as slightly injured to provincial effectors in the city of La Plata have evolved favorably during the course of the morning and have been discharged,” the report states.

“The remaining person, injured in the jaw, is hospitalized for observation to be evaluated by the ENT team but out of danger,” he adds.

At the same time, it was highlighted that during the early hours, “consultations were registered by 7 people at the San Juan de Dios Hospital, 1 at the San Roque de Gonnet Hospital, 3 at the Sor María Ludovica Hospital and 7 at the Gutiérrez Hospital, at that they were also given medical attention for minor situations, without requiring hospitalization”.

On the other hand, it was stated that César Regueiro, the 57-year-old gymnastics fan who lost his life last night, “died as a result of sudden death and non-traumatic cardiorespiratory arrest.”

“CPR was performed in the place without success. He was transferred by private service ambulance and entered the San Martín hospital lifeless,” they stated from the Executive Branch in which they lamented that death and considered that “it is inadmissible that thousands of people from La Plata last night had to live what they lived”.
