The governor of the province of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof, visited the municipality of General Alvarado on Saturday, together with the Minister of Security, Sergio Berni, the Minister of the Environment, Daniela Vilar, and the Mayor Sebastián Ianantuony, after the fire that affected 240 hectares in the town of Miramar and stated: “a dramatic fire was contained here, but fortunately the losses were only material.”

“Since the beginning of this year, our firefighters have carried out 1,300 exits through different sources and yesterday we had 5 very large fires in the province that put our equipment and our force in maximum tension,” added the president of Buenos Aires.

Later, he explained that “when we took over there was only one helicopter of our own and today we have 7 helicopters in operation and specific training that allows them to deal with these emergencies” and stressed that “the response to these situations requires foresight, planning and investment, technical work and specific instrument.

Kicillof stressed the importance of a present State and assured “if not today we would only see ashes in this place.”

The Governor thanked “the joint work between the municipal government, the volunteer firefighters and the workers of the Ministry of Security who risked their lives, and also the civil society that quickly mobilized to help.”

For his part, Berni expressed his “recognition of the men and women who commit their lives and who are always there when society needs them.” “Education and training are part of the daily work that is not seen, but the province prepared for this and we must value the efforts of these workers,” he stressed.

“From the Ministry of the Environment we are going to work on the restoration of the territories and also on public prevention policies so that the approach to environmental problems is comprehensive and with the support of the State,” Vilar said, adding: “we are going to continue with the Nativas Bonaerenses plan to remedy this territory with native plants”.

Finally, the local mayor thanked “the provincial government for the permanent concern and professional work that has allowed the situation to be controlled, which was very dramatic.”

The focus of the fire in General Alvarado began on Friday and was able to be fully controlled during Saturday by the fire personnel of the Provincial Police with the collaboration of volunteer firefighters from the region, with no injuries or damage to homes.
