Alberto Fernandez arrived this Sunday in New York, United States, to participate for the first time in person at the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN).
Prior to that, President will hold a meeting this Monday with the head of the IMF (International Monetary Fund), Kristalina Georgieva. The meeting between the director of the organization and Alberto Fernandez will be given at the Argentine Consulate in New York, at 11:30 local time (12:30 Argentine time).
The meeting between Alberto Fernandez and Georgieva will be key, and it comes just a week after the head of the Fund met with the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, who ratified the Government’s commitment to meet the goals of the organization.
Even Georgieva herself pointed out after the meeting with the minister that “It is a good sign that the entire government is focused on implementing the program” agreed with the IMF in March of this year, to refinance a debt of 44 million dollars.
Meanwhile, it is expected that after the meeting between the president and the head of the IMF, the staff will announce the approval of the second technical review of the program, which will authorize a disbursement of 4,100 million dollars.
Although the IMF would have approved the goals for the second semester, the agency is concerned about the country’s economic situation, especially the strong inflationary pressure and the low level of reserves in the Central Bank.
Despite this, the head of state trusts that by the end of 2022 the country will have higher economic growth, more controlled inflation and a higher level of reserves, which in turn will allow the Government to meet the IMF’s goals for this and next year.
