Kenyans conquer the Mexico City Marathon; Mexicans in wheelchairs triumph

Kenyan marathoner Edwin Kiprop Kiptoo took first place in the men’s category by running the 42,195 meters of the race in a time of 2:10:36; while in second place came Leonard Langat (2:11:30) and in third place Francis Cheruiyot (2:11:35).

In the female category, Kenyan Fancy Chemutai took first place with a time of 2:29:19, Bahraini competitor Shitaye Eshete Habte took second place with a time of 2:29:22 and Kenyan Janet Ruguru Gichumbi took third place with a time of 2:30:58.

The Mexicans managed to dominate the men’s wheelchair category, with Fernando Sánchez Navarro taking gold (1:34:14); silver went to Gonzalo Valdovinos González (1:35:39) and bronze was won by Marco Antonio Caballero Padilla (1:36:08).

Mexican women in wheelchairs also took the top three places: Yeni Hernández, with a time of 1:56.01, won the gold medal; while Ivonne Reyes took second place and Leticia Sánchez third place.

However, he pointed out that when the competition for wheelchair athletes started, one of them fell while crossing an uneven drain during the course, which caused one of the wheels to burst and caused him to lose his balance.

Around 30,000 people participated in this edition of the Mexico City Marathon, completing the series of medals for historical monuments, with the award for the Templo Mayor.
