Miguel Fulgencio “Kencho” Rodríguez, national senator for the Guasu Front, gave his version of the incident with lawyer Michelle Betancourt regarding the land dispute between the Ka’apoty indigenous community and Brazilian farmers.
He stated that INDI bought some 1,364 hectares for that community in 1997. However, due to unscrupulous INDI and Indert officials, they never received title deeds. Therefore, in 2013 and 2014, false titles began to appear in the hands of Brazilian soy growers.
“The Senate of the Republic transferred them to verify the situation of the Ava Guaraní. On the way out, Betancourt leads a mob of Brazilian soy growers who invade, steal and usurp the property of the indigenous people. They throw themselves in front of my truck, hit the vehicles of my entourage. I got off even though they were all armed, I’m not afraid of them. The police did nothing. The State is only in favor of the powerful”, he affirmed.
Finally, she maintained that Arrua and her colleagues who support her hate Marta Diaz, the cacique of the indigenous community in question. He also treated her as a misogynist.
“They hate the poor. they develop aporophobia syndrome, which is hatred of the poor. They come to this sacred precinct to lie without any self-confidence. They are not going to continue stealing an inch from the indigenous people”, she concluded.
